Evening Activities - Meal & Concert in Park

Feeding the entire team as well as friends from the Dakota Alliance Church is a daunting task. Jerry & Shelly Carr are preparing wonderful meals for all of us -- including a picnic in the city park this evening.

Our own band performed a concert in the park & led everyone in worship -- with a little help from our very own little be-bop girls downfront. We had friends from both C&MA churches in attendance as well as a group of Sisseton kids on the fringes listening. It feels great to be the feet & hands of Jesus & to make new friends here.

Of course, what we enjoy the most is just spending time with the people. We have lots of opportunities to enjoy new friendships.

First Morning in Sisseton - 7/31

The whole team arrived in Sisseton safely last evening (minus some last minute health issues which affected parts of a couple of families). After a nourishing waffle/cereal/fruit/oatmeal/pastries complimentary breakfast at the hotel, we met for prayer at the Dakota Alliance Church & then assigned the projects. Since it's our first morning, we all came out of the chute on fire and have been pushing hard all morning and into the afternoon even though it's in the upper 80's here with higher humidity.

We brought 5 large trees along & planted them around the church property. It's quite dry here, so having a pick ax & large "spike" was essential to get through the gravel. The goal is to give our friends here some shade in the future --- the guys might have been pushing it abit to look for alot of shade already today! :)

We also are doing some painting jobs for the church and others in the community. With a team of 40 people, we can really get alot accomplished in a short time.

Relocating a fire pit and homemade "seats" which were made by our group two years ago to a different side of the Dakota Alliance church and trimming trees were part of the fun!

The children have lots of opportunity to serve -- pulling weeds, organizing books, shoveling dirt, moving branches, helping with the meal, and just having plain, 'ole fun!

On Location

The Dakota Alliance Church is our main liason in Sisseton. We've begun to develop good relationships with the church attendees and really look forward to deepening those this year again.

This is where we'll be staying while in Sisseton. It's the nicest Super-8 I've experienced -- even has a pool for relaxing at the end of the day.

Gettting Ready to Go

For a few months now, we have been busy planning our projects and outreach with the Dakota Alliance and Sisseton Alliance churches. Most of all, we want to renew and continue to develop relationships with our new friends in Sisseton -- to encourage them as they minister to the community. We also plan to hold a VBS, worship service, mini-carefest, and build a small shelter on the Dakota Alliance church grounds. In addition, helping the church with their community "Noon Meal" program will be a priority for us. Whew -- and we're only going to be there 5 days!?
